It took place at the Beijing Conference Center, and was held by the Omaha Value Investment Education and Research Center (OVIERC) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Research Center on Fictitious Economy and Data Science.

In 2016, the OVIERC was established by Walter Scott, a member of the board of directors at Berkshire Hathaway, Dr Shi Yong, director of the Key Laboratory of Big Data Mining and Knowledge Management at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dr. Li Yong and Ms. Winni Shen, partners at IW Ventures in New York, and Dr. Deng Wei, a big data researcher.

The OVIERC aims to promote the concept of value investing, characterized by Warren Buffet, and combine this style of investment with entrepreneurial innovation. The center also functions to build a platform for communication between investors around the globe, making continuous efforts to expand cooperative investment and educative exchanges between China and the U.S.

To this end, the OVIERC holds two international conferences per year, which are the Sino-American Venture Capital Summit (SAVCS) and the Global Investment Conference.

Wu Lebin, chairman of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Holdings, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony and got the conference off to an enthusiastic start. He commented that we should all use the GIC as an opportunity to expand value investing into new realms, while also allowing experts to lead us as we develop cooperation and continue work towards sustainable development for China’s economy. 

The Conference Organizing Committee awarded Buffett with the “Lifetime Achievement Award” in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the field of value investing. The guest of honor who presented the award was Zhao Xuejun, CEO and secretary of the Party Committee at Harvest Fund Management.
