Updated:May 23, 2018

Grouphorse has helped improve US.-China trade relations by serving as the exclusive simultaneous interpreting services provider for the 10th US-China CEO and Former Senior Officials’ Dialogue held in Beijing on May 15 and 16.

Cohosted by the China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE) and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the dialogue saw frank exchanges on trade and economic relations between the two countries, covering issues such as China-U.S. trade frictions, their future policies, the Belt and Road Initiative, digital economics, energy, agriculture, and industry.

Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan met with the US delegates. A total of 23 delegates attended the dialogue, including CCIEE Chairman Zeng Peiyan and Thomas Donohue, president and CEO of the US Chamber of Commerce, and CEOs, former government officials, expert, and scholars from both countries.

Chinese delegates pointed out that the only way for both sides to solve the trade issues is through dialogue and consultation. China and the US need to drop the one-sided approach to these relations, and get past the zero-sum or Cold War mentality. Also, both countries should work together to maintain global economic recovery. Entrepreneurs from both sides need to play an active role in guiding public opinion, and take concrete measures to promote better bilateral relations.

American delegates said that protectionist practices such as high tariffs will only hinder trade relations, a proactive attitude is needed to properly resolve relevant issues, and the US business community will continue to encourage cooperative trade and investment between the two countries.

The US-China CEO and Former Senior Officials’ Dialogue aims to reach consensus, strengthen strategic mutual trust, and facilitate a healthy, stable, and sustainable relationship between the two countries. By establishing a platform for communication between Chinese and American CEOs, former senior officials, and think-tank scholars, it represents an important channel for vital exchanges that could bring about real change. Since the first dialogue was held in Beijing in March 2011, nine more dialogues have taken place in Beijing and Washington.
